Dr. Rachel Kohman

Principal Investigator

I completed my doctoral degree at Texas Christian University in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychoneuroimmunology, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Rutgers University and the University of Illinois. In 2012, I joined the Department of Psychology faculty at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. My research program evaluates the functional consequences of inflammation within the brain (i.e., neuroinflammation) as well as attempts to elucidate the physiological mechanisms through which neuroinflammation disrupts cognitive function and measures of neural plasticity.

Lauren Singleton

I completed undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Philosophy at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and I am excited to continue my studies here at UNCW working towards an MS in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience and Behavior. Upon graduating, I hope to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience and contribute to neurodegenerative disease research efforts.

Kate Geisinger

Graduate student

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry at Appalachian State University. I am continuing my studies in the MS Psychology program with a concentration in Neuroscience and Behavior. After graduating I hope to continue my education by pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience and contribute to research surrounding neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases in women.

Kelsey Thompson

Undergraduate student

I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington majoring in Exercise Science with minors in Psychology and Neuroscience. After graduation, I plan to gain clinical experience in preparation for medical school, and to complete a post baccalaureate certificate in health sciences. I am most interested in neurological rehabilitation and the biological influences.

Olivia Anton

I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am a biology major with minors in psychology and neuroscience. After getting my undergraduate degree, my plan is to attend medical school. I am not certain of what I want to specialize in, but I am interested in Radiology, Gynecology, and Neurology.

Andrea Barnes

Undergraduate student

I am an undergraduate student majoring in Public Health Pre-Clinical with a minor in Biology. With this research, I am planning to partake in a Directed Independent Study covering neuroinflammation. After graduation from my undergraduate, I plan to go to Physician Assistant school and obtain licensure and certification as an accredited Physician Assistant. I am unsure of what field of medicine I want to focus on during my career, but Dermatology and Neurology are two I am highly considering! I am so excited to participate in this lab!

Jordyn Carroll

I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am a Biology major with a Neuroscience minor. Following graduation, I plan to gain more experience in the medical field. Ultimately, I plan to attend medical school and specialize in fields related to neurology, immunology or surgery.
